Cost hike in eggs
With the reflection of the feed cost in eggs, the increase made last Friday was 17.5%

Stating that the increase in eggs is due to cost and it is reflected to the consumer a week late, Egg Producers Central Union (YUM-BIR) President İbrahim Afyon said, “Due to the increase in the price of soybean, sunflower and oily soybean meal used in chicken feed, producers had to increase the cost to avoid loss. Producers have been selling below cost in the past weeks, and new prices were set last Thursday to avoid losses as they are now in the cost clamp. The new price, which was reflected on the shelves on Friday, was necessary for the manufacturer to come out of the loss, and it was reflected to the consumers by putting the profit margin of the markets on top.
Explaining that the producer determines the price by looking at the cost and that this price is valid in exports and in the domestic market, Afyon pointed out that exports have a regulating effect on the domestic market. Afyon said, “If eggs are not exported for two weeks, citizens can eat eggs for half the price. However, after two weeks, there will be no eggs to export or eggs to offer to the domestic market. Harmful producer will slaughter his chicken. After a month, we can't even find eggs to import. It is estimated that there are 100 million laying chickens in Turkey. We produce 80 million eggs daily. One-fifth of this is exported,” he said.
